HBCU To The Pros.

Howard University’s “SHOWTIME” Marching Band
Captured by Kent J. Edwards for the Portland Trail Blazers @ the Rose Quarter

This audiovisual piece is a reflection of my journey to Portland, Oregon, with Howard University’s “SHOWTIME” Marching Band for the Portland Trail Blazers' HBCU to the Pros night. Equipped with my camera and a dictaphone, I set out to capture not just images, but the rhythm, the soul, the electric energy of the band’s live performances.

The music does more than complement the visuals—it breathes life into them. To truly capture this, I had to immerse myself within the band. The deeper I became part of their world, the more authentic the moments I captured. The progression of the trip reflects the growth of my photos—each frame becoming more intimate, more alive.

This is the kind of work I want to be remembered for. Work that speaks beyond the stillness of an image, that invites people to see, feel, and hear. I hope that as you engage with this piece, you’re inspired to chase the images that move you—To create the ones that leave a lasting impact on you—so they can leave a lasting impact on others.
